Birdwoods Metal Sculpture

Based near Harare in Zimbabwe, Birdwoods Metal Sculptures have established a reputation internationally for their exceptional quality and inspirational creations.

In 1991 Louise Stobart began creating metal sculptures fromm 44 gallon oil drums and scrap metal. Eventually she passed on her skills and her inspiration to a number of skilled Zimbabwen artists who joined her workshop and embraced her passion for metal sculpture.

During 2003, Louise, her husband and their three young children were forcibly evicted from their farm. With what little assets they were left with and unsure of the future of Zimbabwe, Louise and her family relocated to New Zealand.

Following a period of uncertainty for the artists and their future, the business was saved by a lady named Joy Denton.

Even with the growing uncertainty of day to day business in Zimbabwe Joy continues to run Birdwoods. Whilst she strives to maintain the integrity of what Louise began, she has also continued to grow the business to its current international status.

Louise and her family now live in New Zealand where Louise has her own workshop and gallery displaying Birdwoods Metal Scultures and Zimbabwean Stone Art.

She visits Zimbabwe regularly.
