Matthew Nakhawale

Born in 1978 in Epworth in Zimbabwe, Matthew Nakhawale started his sculpting career in 1999. He is married with one child.

Matthew was taught how to sculpt by his father and uncle.

He likes working on family units or "Mhuri yakabatana " and animal pieces. Matthew is a very popular artist which seems to be due to his ability to create lots of movement within these family circles and also his way of mixing the raw stone texture with a highly polished finish.

His work is usually absrtact with a refreshing simplicity to it.

Matthew spent the summers of 2006 and 2007 with us in the U.K. demonstrating sculpting techniques to the public at the Newby Hall Zimbabwean Sculpture Exhibition.

He lives and works from Harare.

Matthew prefers working on Springstone and Opal.

Many of his pieces have been exhibited in the U.S.A, U.K. and Australia.
